Dreams

Dreams have a reality all their own. To the person who indulges in its escapist world, it is as real as you and me. Do you remember the time when as a kid, we used to have our own imaginary friends? Or how about the castles in the air we escaped to when things were bleak in our real world?

I remember when I was a child and I dreamed of my own world of make believe. My favorite spot was our window upstairs. I would pretend that it was an airplane and I was a pilot that flew it wherever I wanted it to go. I would simulate so many dogfights and bomb runs on the territories of the enemy.

Sometimes, I would pick up cottons from inside our dilapidated living room sofa and blew them outside our window. Then I would pretend that they formed into the big shapely clouds that adorned our skies.

Even when I was already a young teen, I would still indulge in my make believe world. It was a world of idyllic beauty, with a breath taking lake and a garden full of gorgeous flowers and luscious fruit bearing trees. Oh, I was always lost in the enchanting beauty and grandeur of that escapist world with the lady of my dreams. Food was no problem for us for the lake was full of fishes jumping in the air. And we have our own menagerie of farm animals to provide us meat. We planted our own colorful vegetables in our garden patch.

The girl of my dreams was so beautiful, perfect in every way. I made so many poems and love letters to her. But alas, all dreams have their endings. I was brought back to the harsh realities of life. I have to go on with my schooling and later on, with my work. But my enchanted world was so good and real while it lasted.

Hi Mel, of the all post of yours I've ever read, this is the best. You know me, I post dreams, and everything I saw in Kirby's Dream Land.

So you're with me, everything is possible in Kirby's Dream Land, we all can fly (even if we're not birds), we can breathe underwater (even if we're not fishes), and even we can see those who were our sweet beloved ones, and are already gone.

Thanks Mel. Big greetings and big hugs

Sweet Dreams, from the bottom of my dreamer Heart:

Hi Mel, even I can feel going to Kirby's Dream Land.

Dreams are our escape from the hard reality, so we flee and stop at Kirby's Dream Land.

Thanks for your amusing post, greetings and hugs

Nice Day, with my whole soul:
Gusthav

Hi Arthur,
Yes, we both share the same viewpoint in life. I am a dreamer all my life. But I know where dreams and reality separate. I never intertwine them. He, he, he, *lol*. I guess I will always be a lad in my heart for I still enjoy the simple things in life. Thanks for your visit and for your enthusiastic comments. I really appreciate them my young friend. God bless you and your family always.

Hi Gusthav,
I think we all three share the same joy in having a dreamland all our own. But we must be careful not to linger in it for a longer period of time because we might like it better there than in the real world and that's where the trouble will start. Of course, we have to deal with the world of reality. There's no sense in indulging in escapism most of the time. Thanks for your visit and your comments my young friend. God bless you and your family always.

Hi Keshi,
I don't think escapism is the answer for that would only be negating reality. There comes a point in our lives when we do away with our dream world for the reality of life. Dreaming have a certain place in our young life but never to the point that it will linger unnecessarily with our adult lives. Thanks for your visit and your comments. God bless you and your loved ones always.

well i would not call it completely escape from the reality. We all need time for ourselves, when we can think, dream, believe in the best. We need a world where things are better and when we create such world for ourself we realise it is just for a while because we always have to come back.
So it is kind of a vacation in the world free of worries and problems. :)

Great post! Loved it!
Take good care, Mel :)

Hi Lena,
Thanks for your visit and for your insightful comments. Yes, dreams do not mean we have to go on escapism for that is bad for everybody in the long run. Dreams are always a part of our young life when we indulge in our over active imagination. But when we become adults and we still resort in dreams, that will be tantamount to escapism, an escape from the realities of life and that is not good for our sanity. Thanks again. God bless.

Hehhehe..yeyyy,make dream comes true!We must have a dream that motivates us. No one has ever achieved anything without a dream attached to a burning desire!!

Dreamers develop an attitude that radiates energy; they have a sense of purpose and meaning to their lives...this is how dreams can come true.

On the other hand, sometimes we dream just to satisfy our own fantasy land!!..just a temporary escape for relaxation of mind...:)

Have a nice day my friend.I love to dream from time to times...

Hi Noushy,
Life would be trite and colorless without dreams to spur us on but dreams must not be used as a vehicle for escapism. Somehow, someway we have to face the realities of life.
Thanks for your visit my dear beautiful friend. God bless you and your loved ones always.

man, reading your post took me back to my younger days. I also loved daydreaming especially during long rides when we go out of town. I had "characters" in it. My favorite was a beautiful girl I named "Darlene". She had red hair, green eyes and white skin. She played the piano and loved to sing. I used to write stories about her too.

This song was one of my favorites when I was a teenager. Thanks to your blog, got the chance to watch the video of it.

I used to daydream about me being a princess in the woods where nobody's there but the talking animals and my handsome prince.

beautiful thoughts. Dreams are what I am made of :-)

Hi Wendy,
I thought for a while that your imaginary friend "Darlene" with the red hair, green eyes and white skin was somebody like the Grimlich, the one who stole Christmas from Santa. He, he, he,*lol* And your friend too can sing and play the piano. You have a more fertile imagination than me my friend. Anyway, dreams are good to escape the harsh realities of life once in a while but if we do it on an extended periods of time, it becomes escapism. Thanks for your visit and enjoyable comments. God bless you and your loved ones always.

Hi My,
Thanks for your visit and your cute comments. So you used to be a princess in the woods with your prince charming. I also love that song. I used to sing it in videokes but with a frog's voice, he, he, he, *lol* I hope you are doing well in Sweden. Thanks again. God bless you and your loved ones always.

Hi Tey,
Everybody loved that song way back when. Brings back pleasant memories of younger days. He, he, he, *lol* Thanks for your visit. I hope you are doing well with the traffic in your blog. God bless you and your loved ones always my friend.

Hi Raaji,
Your poems speak so much of your dreams too. I guess we are all dreamers one way or the other. This world will be such a dreary place if we don't indulge in occasional daydreaming. Thanks for your visit and meaningful comments. God bless.

HI Marie,
Thanks for coming over and for your beautiful comments. Yes, we all dream because life starts with a dream until we push it to reality. God bless.

Hi sis Emmyrose,
I can't seem to figure out how to manage my blog at Bravenet. I'm a little bit frustrated already and might abandon it altogether. Thanks for your visit and for sharing with us your imaginary friend when you were a kid. All of us have imaginary friends at one point in our lives. Thanks again. God bless.

Some say that dreams are actually manifestations of our subsconscious desires which we cannot fulfill in real life for whatever reason. In your own words, do you agree or disagree?

BTW, I've been wondering for years who's the guy behind "Dreams Are My Reality" Finally, it was Richard Sanderson. Now I have an answer should somebody asks me "who sang that song?" Good Find.

Mel Avila Alarilla said...

Hi Citizen J.D.C.,
When I wrote this piece, I was not thinking of dreams that we have when we're asleep. The dreams that I wrote was about our daydreaming or reverie. There's a lot of difference between the two. One is involuntary and cannot be controlled since they emanate from our subconscious. Daydreaming is controlled by the person indulging in it. I hope this clarifies the matter. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless.
