The Portent

    THE PORTENT
These are the signs of the times.  There is global warming and the weather of the world becomes very erratic.  Strong typhoons, devastating hurricanes, cyclones  and massive snowstorms have wrought havoc to many countries causing so much destructions to lives and properties.  It's either extreme heat or extreme cold.  The polar caps are melting and soon low lying islands will start to submerged in water.  We have now seen the beginning of the collapse of the world economy on a scale never seen before.  Not even a package of $ 700 billion from Washington could stem the tide of world wide recession and panic selling of stocks and properties.  Values of world currencies are on a tailspin.  Big and prestigious companies have collapsed or declared bankruptcies.  Governments have to shore up the financial images of big banks or there will be massive bank runs.  There is melamine scare from Chinese milk and milk products.  There are ever present dangers of terroristic attacks that have produced horrible sufferings from innocent civilians and bystanders.  There are prevailing presence of so many exotic and dreaded diseases that are incurable and extremely painful to the sufferers.  Earthquakes and massive tidal waves or tsunamis have claimed the lives of so many people.  There is widespread apostasy in the world where personality cults abound.  There is evil and moral degeneration in mainstream society as if sinning and wanton living are the mode of the times.

Are these signs of the times not  a portent of things to come?

what is happening now is because of man's actions

Hi Tintin,
Yes, man's actions are coming back to him like his own shadow. Thanks for your visit and profound comments. God bless you always.

Oh gosh, sometimes I hope it's not yet but God will be with us during these times. It may be the end times. :D

Hi Aisha,
We can only pray that this is not yet the end. We can draw near to God so that we will always be prepared. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you both always

These things have been happening for thousands of years, Wars, natural disasters, etc. We are only hearing more about them now because of all the media and instant news we have now.

Hi Sue,
My article was just rhetorical in nature and the Bible said that people will be living up their lives when that day comes. The Lord said He will come like a thief in the night. It is better to be safe than sorry as the adage goes. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you and your family always.

The problem started from the day we started excessive use of woods.
We need plantation world-wide.

Jesus is coming very soon...

Although these things have been happening for thousands of years, but our personal death is only one, and nobody knows when we meet Jesus.
Let it be wonderful moment for each of us.

I think that this is the one of the most important message!
Thank you Mel!

God bless you and your writing!

someone above mentioned the problem started with excessive use of woods, but the problems actually started with Adam & Eve in the garden. regardless of what's going on in the world, those who've given their lives over to Jesus always have that blessed Hope, so even in the midst of trying times, we can still have joy. peace & blessings to you and your family Mel.

Hi Hobo,
That may partly explain for the global warming but for the other fortuitous events, I don't think they have anything to do with the use of woods. Anyway, thanks for your visit and wonderful comments. God bless.

Hi Krystyna,
Yes, Jesus will come suddenly unannounced like a thief in the night. We must always be ready to meet the bridegroom anytime. Thanks for your visit and inspired comments my dear friend. God bless you and your loved ones always.

Hi Sylvia,
Yes, I agree with you. All these things have been prophesied so long time ago and we are witnessing the unfolding of those prophecies. It's a matter of faith in what we must believe in but like in the days of Noah and in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, people were doing their usual business when tragedy suddenly struck and they were all left alone holding empty bags. Those who say that these things are long in coming yet are those who are not prepared for the coming of the Lord. Thanks for your visit and inspired comments. God bless you always my dear friend.
