Tolerance (A Lost Virtue As Rare As Diamonds)

Tolerance means patience and understanding, and knowing that people have individual differences. Tolerance is putting ourselves in the shoes of the other person and always giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Tolerance has many enemies- impatience, bitterness, egoism, hatred, bigotry, antagonism, cynicism and many more. It has few friends. Among them are: love, patience and perseverance.

Whenever you feel that you cannot tolerate a person or a group of persons, reverse your thinking processes. Did it ever occur to you that, that person or group of persons, cannot also tolerate you? Maybe the problem is with you and not with them. We cannot change other people, but we can always change ourselves.

Next time that you feel that you cannot tolerate a person or a situation, try to redirect your focus on your own thoughts and emotions. You may just be mad at yourself for your failures in life, and may just be seeing a reflection of yourself in them. Let us rid ourselves of our own blind spots. Then we will see ourselves as others see us.

Yeah rite, this is so true..it's hard but not impossible to do.

It's just like looking in the mirror...what we say or do is the reflections of own self, thus,
be nice to others in the same way, as you want others to be nice with you.

...and sometime we have to accept the terms of others...

Keep smiling Mel, and all the best yea.

hi mel, i had to smile as i was reading this. sometimes i say, "my tolerance level for nonsense is low." by that i mean some people have so much junk with them, and i just don't want to tolerate what i deem to be nonsense. perhaps what i term as nonsense might be real to other people, so i'll really work on being more tolerant in those areas. however, i still don't like nonsense. *lol* i know, tolerance. good post and very timely for me.

Thanks tk for the very profound quote from JFK. I appreciate that. Thanks for the visit. Smile. God bless and have a nice and meaningful day.

Thanks too Heiresschild. We really have to understand the saying "different strokes, for different folks." The same freedom and privilege we reserve for ourselves must also be reciprocated by extending the same to others. In other words, if we can't understand them, we just tolerate them. They have as much freedom and privileges on this planet as we do. Whew, that made me dizzy. *lol* I hope you got my point, 'cause I didn't, he, he, *lol* Smile. God bless and have a wonderful and tolerant day.

That's what I say: If you're talking good about someone or something, say it. If no, better be silent, and say nothing.

I think it's better to calm down, and drink some mate (mate is a kind of tea from my Argentina).

Greetings and hugs

Nice Day, with my whole soul:

Yes I agree with you Arthur. Better to keep our mouths shut if there is nothing good that we can say to our fellow men. Word of wisdom from a youthful mouth. Thanks for dropping by and congratulations on your appointment (together with Gusthav)as moderators of WUB for South America. Both of you deserve it. I'm a bit guilty with this I have high tolerance with physical pain but I am very impatient, although I try to be understanding with other people.
