Road Map To Eternity

ROAD MAP TO ETERNITY
One of the most astounding discovery of the modern era is the invention of the GPS or the Global Positioning System. With this device, you will be able to know exactly where you are relative to the position of any place on earth. I am not well verse on its actual mechanics or how it really functions, but it has resulted in reduced travel times for travelers. Many travelers now can go anywhere else in the world using a reliable GPS, compass and road maps. There is no longer any uncharted territory on earth for any place can be reached and traversed. We may be able to determine the exact path we should take in traversing point A to point B anywhere else in the world but do we have a reliable road map to eternity? Think about that. We prepare for any eventuality in our lives. We send our kids to the best schools to prepare them to have a better chance of success in the future. We buy all kinds of insurance and invest in all kinds of securities as a hedge against the uncertainties of the future. But we treat eternity as though it never exist and that we are living our lives solely for this world and for the present times alone. Where is our road map to eternity? The Bible is the only sure road map and guide to eternity. Read it and live the commands and precepts of the Lord and we will assure ourselves of a purposive life here on earth and a blissful life with the Lord for all eternity.

The End Times

Why are we talking about the end times? Because almost all the Biblical prophecies about the end times have already happened or are happening now. One of the biggest and most astounding realization of a Biblical prophecy was the reestablishment of the State of Israel in 1947 and declaration of the country of Israel in 1948. The Jews were dispersed and ceased to be a nation for almost 2,000 years. Culminating with the death of more than 6 million Jews through the policy of genocide instituted by Hitler and his cabal of Nazi supporters, and after the Second World War, the Jews were called from the four corners of the world to populate the new and reestablished country of Israel. This did not sit well with millions of Palestinians who were dispossessed of their homeland nor the group of Arab nations surrounding the fledgling nation of Israel. Several wars shook the whole Middle East as the Arab countries ganged up on the emerging nation. The strong financial and military support of the United States of America who armed Israel, propped up the yet unsteady government of Jerusalem. Now more than ever, the apparent peace in the Middle East is rocked by a new wave of fanatical armed groups that vowed to exterminate it. Foremost of these groups is the Al-Qaeda, the group behind the 9/11 suicide attacks of the World Trade Center in New York, USA. We are now seeing a succession of different natural calamities that have claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. The earth was prophesied to perish by fire. The only remaining prophecy that has not yet happened is the reestablishment of the new Temple of Jerusalem. Let us all be ready whenever the end time finally appear.

Are We Ready To Meet The Lord?

ARE WE READY TO MEET THE LORD?
Times are changing. Events are happening so fast that we could hardly catch our breath. Many Bible scholars are predicting the onset of Biblical eschatology or the end times. We are witnessing globally catastrophic events that are shaking our very lives and forcing us to think about our eternal future. The question that we should ask ourselves is: Are we ready to meet the Lord when He comes? We are so solicitous in doing everything to provide for our children and in hedging them against the uncertainties of the future. But have we prepared ourselves and our loved ones against the uncertainties of the realization of God's prophecies in the Bible? When we judge everything by the standard of the world and by our own logical thinking, we will fail to see the signs of the times. To us, everything has an explanation except for the will of God. We always exclude God in the explanation of everything. Every problem, every earth shaking event have their logical and scientific explanation but we always exclude God in everything. They are all there, written in the word of God in the Bible. They were written thousands of years ago through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. All we have to do is study and ponder God's words to understand everything that is happening today and whether we are living in compliance with the will of God or not. It is very dangerous to continue living our lives on our own concepts and ideas of everything. When the Lord comes and ask us whether we lived our lives the way He commanded us to live them, what will be our answer, our excuses? That we do not know it and expect God to accept our alibi of feigning ignorance? No, He will condemn us for not knowing His will in our lives when they are clearly written in His words in the Bible. There is no escape for our culpability. Then we will rue the days when we disregarded God's words.

Our Will Vs God's Will

Ever since we were born, we were taught to express our will to get anything in life. In school, we were taught to be independent, self reliant and aggressive in imposing our will to grab anything out of life. We were taught to become highly competitive and to strive to be the very best in every field of work or discipline that we enter. But in doing so, we also bloat our ego or self esteem. We sometimes see ourselves as superior to everybody else and we develop a winner's attitude that frowns upon losing. But this is in direct contradiction to the admonition of God when He said, "unless you become like little children, you will not enter the kingdom of God" (Matthew 18:2). Why this special privilege to small children? Because they are not only innocent but very trusting. They don't worry about anything but trust that their own parents will provide for all their needs. A person who is self reliant, who always impose his will on others and always desire to win all his battles against all odds would rarely depend on God but on his own free will. He develops a delusion of grandeur and see himself as far above everybody else. This is the beginning of his downfall for the Lord says, "he who exalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exalted" (Matthew 23:12). There is nothing wrong if we impose our will. Just make sure that our will is subservient and aligned to the will of God and we will surely succeed in life.

Karma- The Law Of Cause And Effect

We all talk about karma, but what really is karma? Karma is the spiritual law of cause and effect. For every cause, there is an equal and corresponding effect. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. For example, if we throw a ball into the air, it will come down to earth again. Throwing the ball upward is the cause and its resulting downward return to earth is its effect. In the spiritual realm, this is a bit complicated. It pertains to a spiritual force or energy that is released that must result in the return of the same force or energy into equilibrium. One cannot get away with a crime or sin. What was hidden in the dark will be exposed in the light when we face our stern but loving Judge. Even our hidden thoughts will be exposed to the light. But we have an assurance of forgiveness from the Lord if we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior and confess our sins to Him. As the Book of Isaiah says, "though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool"(Isaiah 1:18). Our sins are washed clean by the blood of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ as though we have never committed any sin at all. Even its guilt and punishment are already paid for by the Lord. What remain are the consequences of sins for which we may suffer for quite some time as the resulting habit and evil inclination are being erased so that we will be transformed to the likeness and image of Jesus Christ. As Jesus is the Lord of the sabbath, He is also the Lord of karma for He already paid the full price of our sins.

The Greatest Painter

Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, Rembrandt, Matisse, El Greco, Renoir, Picasso are some of the master painters of all time. But do you know who is the greatest painter of all eternity? God is the greatest painter of all time. He uses our very lives as His very own canvas. He starts with a bold color of sparkling yellow very much like the rays of the sun at the onset of our lives. Then different hues and cascading colors follow suit in a never ending succession of colors and tints. To us, who cannot see it all, it seems like our own canvas has no meaning and is just a jumbled and unintelligible mixtures of colors, some joyous and others somber and gray. But to the greatest Painter of all eternity, our canvas is a dazzling masterpiece that He so proudly shows off to all the angelic hosts. The Bible says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and that we are the pinnacle of God's creation because we were made in the likeness and image of God (Genesis 1:26). God uses all kinds of colors, even the dull and seemingly unattractive ones. It is very clear in His mind the concept of His finished product. In reality, we may undergo so many trials that represent the gray and seemingly dull colors on our canvas, but at the end, God's masterpiece will show the greatest work of His hands. And what is that work? A life changed and transformed to the glory of His beloved Son- Jesus Christ.
